Why?  Do You Wanna Hear Great Music?

Orlando "Maraca" Valle began his studies at age 10 and graduated from the rigorous music conservatory of Escuela Superior de Arte in Cuba. His professional career began when he played with Cuban musicians Emiliano Salvador and Bobby Caracasses. He gained greater recognition during his 6 years playing with Irakere, a world renowned jazz band lead by Chuchu Valdes. You can hear his breath taking solos on the Irakere recording "Live at Ronnie Scottís. His tenure with Irakere offered him the opportunity to experiment with a variety of musical styles, play with veteran musicians and a look at the business side of the music industry. Maraca left Irakere to form his own group "Otra Vision" and released their first album "Formula Uno in 1996. Their subsequent albums "Havana Calling", Sonando and Descarga Total have been enthusiastically embraced by Latin Jazz lovers from all over the world. Maraca has appeared on over 20 CDs and has served as a producer Maraca has also produced records for his brotherís band and the first two albums by Cubanismo. He also produced the record "Pasaporte" with Tata Guines and Miguel Anga that was awarded the "Record of the Year" by Egrem Studios, Cubaís premiere recording company.

Great musicianship seems to run in his family. Brother Yumuri has a very popular salsa band called Yumuri Y Su Hermanos. His 3 other brothers( trumpeter Luis Alberto, saxophonist Pedro and Osvaldo) perform internationally and his late uncle Rafael Jacinto Valle, was the director of a band in Cuba. Even his wife, Celine Chauveau Valle, plays flute and occasionally appears with the band.

Maraca and his dynamic 15-piece band bring together the old and the new music. His virtuosity on the flute is a tribute to the musical traditions of older musicians include flutists Jose Fajardo, Richard Egues, Antonio Arcano. At the same time, his music has an innovative, driving contemporary sound. His band showcases some of the best and brightest young Cuban musicians . His concerts are a mixture of  the roots of Cuban music (son, danzon) and modern stylings that enchant lovers of jazz and Salsa.
