Thursday after noon and there has been a decided change in the energy here. No more fooling around, everyone has one chance and one chance only to show they belong in the finals.

Albert’s afternoon meeting had a packed room of 300 competitors from everywhere on the globe.

He announced the people who qualified last night, and then announced who would be competing on Thursday and who would be up on Friday.  Below are pictures of the list of who performs tonight and in which order.

Albert also announced they will be enforcing the 3 country rule for the finals – that is, only the top 3 for any given country can make it into the finals. While he said this was to ensure fairness, I find that a little obscure. The reality is, the only countries that can affect here are Colombia and the U.S. Whether it has any real-world application remains to be seen.

Here’s are some other pictures from these first two days….

Where are the results? Someone needs to do live-Twitter coverage of the event.

Wow looking at the competitors list it is definitely a different event than in years past. No more is the infamous rivalry between young superstars Junior and Emily and the Aussie world champions Oliver and Luda in the on2 division. Also noticeably absent is Abel Pena And Zulmara Torres 3 time on1 division winners.

Its really weird how most of the top salsa stars arent at the championships. No Oliver and Luda, Junior and Emily, Abel and Zulmara, Kelvin and Licelott, Swing Latino, Jhesus and Marielys?!
I don't think this was just a coincidence.
I heard there was a serious problem with the music, something to do with Fania records shutting down? I'm not sure if that was the problem. There was also a change of venue. Anyone got any ideas?

**just to amend my last comment, i think Swing Latino was there – the teams were quite big. But no Isidro and Sheila either? Did the big names just quit in the confusion or was it to do with a problem with the music like it said on the WSC website? I was really looking forward to Oliver and Ludas new performance since its been 2 years since the last championships! Its good that someone is making the effort to organise such an amazing event, its a shame it seems difficult to find a permanent, reliable venue.
