This was another great event organized by Ricardo and MIchelle or Pretty Boys
and Girls. They really outdid themselves by bringing in not one, not two, but
seven performers under one roof! Very cool Christmas event, guys! If the
economy is in the doldrums, as they say, there was no evidence of that on
Friday, December 21! We enjoyed some great energy from the crowd and the dance
troupes. A pleasantly surprising novelty at this event was a traditional Aztec
performance by a San Jose troupe! Not only that, there was an interesting
"follow- the- leader" ice-breaking line dance (audience participation, not part
of the scheduled performances!) in which almost everyone took part, snaking
around the whole floor! I look forward to attending dance socials for the
simple fact that it's casual and pressure-free.
Included in the performers' line-up:
Pretty Boys and Girls, Latin Symbolics, Gil & Naomi, Ricasalsa, Latin
Symbolics, Salsamania, Rumba Rumberos!
And recently added were:
Los Mantanceros Dance Company, Los Salseros de Stanford, Azteca Dancers!
General information: This regular event is held at the Dance Spectrum
Ballroom, a very nice ballroom, fair sized floor, and good ventilation. There's
plenty of parking outside, it's easy to get to (right off the freeway). Stay
for the dancing until 1:30 in the morning (I stayed later than that!)
Re-charge your batteries at the free buffet. And yes, they do tell me the
meatballs are still really, really good (but I missed out on them). If you come
early, 2 hours of instruction by Ricardo and Michelle themselves, with partner
work and sexy styling!
